A law firm based in Warwickshire has been acquired out of administration by a national firm. Wright Hassall LLP fell into administration on November 14 2025, with Joph Young, Andrew Poxon and Hilary Pascoe of Leonard Curtis appointed as joint administrators.
The joint administrators worked in conjunction with the LLP’s partners to secure a sale of its business and assets to HCR Legal LLP, a top 50 UK law firm with 11 offices across England and Wales.
HCR Law, which has a team of 1,060 staff and partners, generates turnover of £112 million. The firm specialises in a wide range of sectors, including defence and security, education, financial services, healthcare, local government and public sector, sports, media and entertainment, technology, agriculture and numerous others.
The sale secures more than 100 jobs and provides Wright Hassall’s clients with the opportunity to access the size and specialisms of the larger, combined business.
Commenting on the sale, joint administrator Joph Young said: “This positive outcome provides a seamless transition, achieving the best result in challenging circumstances for Wright Hassall LLP’s creditors, employees and clients.”
Fellow joint administrator Hilary Pascoe, who has extensive experience in the legal sector, said that Leonard Curtis had seen an increase in law firm insolvencies over recent months. According to Pascoe, the rise in legal sector insolvencies illustrates the issues that many firms across the industry are facing, with two particular areas of concern being rising costs and recruitment challenges.
In accounts for the year to March 31 2024, Wright Hassall LLP reported turnover of around £17.7 million, up from £17.1 million a year earlier, while operating profits increased from £1 million to £1.6 million.
Its fixed assets at the time totalled slightly over £429,000, while current assets stood at close to £10 million and net assets at around £4.1 million.
