Hessay Solar, a York solar project that could power thousands of homes, has been acquired by funds managed by Triple Point. Hessay Solar, which has planning consent in place, is a 49.9MW project covering around 151 acres and expected to generate enough clean electricity to supply approximately 14,100 homes each year once it reaches commercial operation.
Grid connection for the project is currently targeted for the second half of 2027 and construction is already underway. In addition to its clean power output, the project is set to provide significant biodiversity benefits.
The UK government has awarded Hessay Solar a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the Sixth Allocation Round (AR6), securing revenues over a period of 15 years, indexed to inflation.
Planning regulations stipulate that major developments must generate a minimum biodiversity net gain of 10 per cent. Hessay Solar significantly exceeds this threshold, generating a 63 per cent uptick in habitat units, a 91 per cent increase in hedgerow units and a 29 per cent increase in river units.
The project has been acquired from Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., and represents the second solar acquisition struck by Triple Point-managed funds this year, following the January purchase of a 28MW solar project in Essex.
