Time4Sleep, a Yorkshire-based bed and mattress retailer has transitioned to employee ownership.
Founded in 2005 by Jonathan Warren and headquartered in Elland, the company has grown from a start-up bedroom retailer into a ecommerce business generating approximately £10 million in annual revenue. The company sells a range of beds, TV beds, bed frames, Ottoman beds and mattresses to customers across the UK.
Time4Sleep said it places a high emphasis on product quality, and ensures that all stocked beds and mattresses are tested and evaluated. This reputation for quality, it added, has also seen Time4Sleep become a go-to supplier for major high street retailers.
Time4Sleep said it had made the move to employee ownership to put its 13 employees at the centre of its future. Under the EOT structure, a majority stake in Time4Sleep has been transferred into a trust held on behalf of all employees.
Employees will also gain formal representation through a Trust Board, with a staff-elected employee trustee ensuring the team's voice is heard at management level.
Managing director Warren and family have retained a 20 per cent personal shareholding. He will continue in his role, “ensuring continuity of leadership and ensuring there is no impact on day to day operations, while empowering the team to share in the business' future prosperity”.
Warren said: "The beds and mattress sector is a competitive space, and what sets Time4Sleep apart has always been our people. This transition solidifies this ethos for the next two decades and beyond. Our company ethos is something that will outlast any one individual, a business owned by the people who live and breathe it every day.”
