A 72MW solar farm in Yorkshire has been acquired from PS Renewables by egg Power, the clean energy business of Liberty Global. The business has secured the project rights to Pilmoor Solar Farm, which is expected to be operational in Q4 2027.
The acquisition builds on egg Power’s recent purchases of a number of solar and wind assets across the UK, including South Ayrshire’s Chirmorie Wind Farm. In January, the business secured £400 million in non-recourse financing from NatWest to support further acquisitions.
The Pilmoor Solar Farm project is construction-ready, with an agreement for the site to be built by PSR and a 20-year offtake in place for the power that it will generate.
Pilmoor Solar Farm will generate sufficient electricity to power 21,000 homes, whilst also removing 9,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The project is set to bring significant economic benefits to North Yorkshire, generating an estimated £1.7 million of economic output through the build phase and supporting approximately 150 construction jobs.
The site is also expected to contribute around £160,000 a year in business rates, while generating opportunities for local service providers, contractors and suppliers.
Ilesh Patel who leads Liberty Global’s egg Power business said: "We are continuing on our path supporting the UK’s energy transition with our largest solar acquisition. We already have an excellent portfolio of projects to help our customers meet their energy needs and have the financing and expertise to bring more ready-to-build assets to fruition."
Jose Luis Gandia, Managing Director at PS Renewables, added: "Pilmoor Solar represents our second solar project in partnership with egg Power and is a strong endorsement of the quality of projects our teams are bringing forward and our ability to deliver them successfully. With enough capacity to power more than 21,000 homes, it will make a meaningful contribution to improving energy security and supporting the UK's net zero ambitions."
