A popular shopping centre in the South West that attracts millions of visitors each year has been acquired by Frasers Group for an undisclosed sum. Swindon Designer Outlet is a 250,000 sq ft shopping outlet situated to the north west of Swindon town centre.
The shopping centre was opened in 1997 on the Grade II-listed site of the former Great Western Railway Works. It features more than 100 brand outlets, as well as cafes, restaurants and a children’s play area.
Previously owned by major shopping centre operator McArthurGlen before being acquired by LaSalle Investment Management in January 2022, the outlet is said to attract more than three million visitors each year.
Swindon Designer Outlet has now been acquired from LaSalle Investment Management by Frasers Group, owned by Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley. The acquisition continues Frasers Group’s push to expand its physical retail portfolio, with the group having acquired Braehead shopping centre last month in a deal said to be valued at approximately £220 million.
Earlier this year, Frasers Group was also reported to be considering a move to acquire a 50 per cent stake in the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester.
Commenting on the group’s latest acquisition Frasers Group CEO Michael Murray said: “Physical retail is central to our elevation strategy and investing in Swindon – one of the UK’s top five outlets by footfall – strengthens our position as both retailer and landlord. This acquisition reinforces our property strategy and unlocks new opportunities for our brands and our partners.”
Frasers Group was advised on the acquisition by James Keany, Executive Director, Head of National Agency at CBRE.
Despite the severe challenges that physical retail has faced in recent years, sales volumes and footfall are recovering on high streets and in shopping centres, with Frasers Group one of a number of buyers increasingly targeting brick and mortar retail assets
An established car dealership in Berkshire, positioned on a prominent main road, is now available for purchase, offering a prime opportunity for investment in a lucrative market.
LEASEHOLD
A well-positioned self-service convenience store in Kent is now available, boasting a spacious 800 sq. ft. sales area and a full off-licence.
LEASEHOLD
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-established clothing brand with over 20 years of heritage and strong ties to the local community.
