Roadside, an Oxfordshire-headquartered developer and manager of roadside retail assets, has agreed a deal to acquire a collection of six petrol station forecourts located in the South West of England for £17.8 million.
The acquisition of Gloucestershire-based Gardner Retail was described as presenting a "significant opportunity to unlock additional value through further development of the sites". The purchase will be funded through an increase in Roadside’s maximum facility agreement with Tarncourt Properties.
Gardner Retail, which is based in Cheltenham, provides roadside petrol and convenience store retailing, operating from a number of key locations across the South West.
Discussing the acquisition, Roadside Chief Executive Charles Dickson said: "This transaction marks the start of a new chapter in the execution of our strategy to build a high-quality portfolio of modern roadside retail assets and is a significant step in enhancing our competitive positioning.”
"Our highly experienced team and strong track record in realising value from real estate assets will play a key role in unlocking future value.”
In accounts for the year to July 31 2024, Gardner Retail Limited reported turnover of £32.1 million, down from approximately £38.7 million a year earlier, while operating profits fell from £2.8 million to around £994,000.
At the time, the company’s fixed assets were valued at £10.3 million and current assets at £2.5 million, with net assets amounting to around £4.5 million.
