A logistics specialist based in Leicestershire has completed the acquisition and merger of a counterpart based in Northampton. Premiere Logistics’ merger with WT Transport creates an enlarged business with revenues of around £30 million.
According to the two family-run businesses, the deal will create a more resilient, scalable and future-focused group. The combined business will have a fleet of 110 vehicles, 220 staff and 330,000 sq ft of warehousing space located close to the M1.
Premier Logistics said that the deal would provide the scale and capability for the business to compete for larger national contracts, invest in infrastructure and technology and broaden its sector reach. Managing Director Lee Christopher, who founded Premier in 2004, said the merger united two like-minded businesses with similar values.
Premier Logistics is already part of Palletforce and the Transport Association, while WT Transport brings additional network coverage through its memberships of TPN and Hazchem, as well as FORS Silver accreditation and ISO-certified warehousing.
Lee Christopher commented: “Our partnership will unlock the benefits of significant operational synergies, drive efficiencies and support sustainable, long-term growth across a diverse range of customer segments.”
“Crucially this is also about securing the longevity of both businesses, succession planning and providing a platform for the next generation to come through and take things forward.”
Warren Tattersall, who has led WT Transport alongside Sarah Tattersall for nearly 30 years, said the deal created a clear pathway for growth while preserving the company’s family values.
He continued: “This partnership will help secure the future of WT Transport. By ensuring a ‘stronger together’ approach we will enhance operational resilience and ensure we have the agility to tackle industry challenges and capitalise on emerging market opportunities.”
In the year to October 31 2024, Premier Logistics (UK) Limited reported turnover of £12.2 million, up from £11.7 million, although operating profits dropped from around £634,000 to £463,000.
