A trio of packaging businesses have merged in a deal aimed at addressing the changing packaging market. Hazel 4D, Acopia's transit packaging division and Kwikpac have combined to form Orkka Limited.
The three businesses collectively have more than 120 years of experience across packaging consultancy, consumables, machinery and operational support. The merger was supported by BDO’s M&A team.
Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Leeds, Hazel 4D has grown from a packaging consumables business into a provider of packaging consultancy services and machinery for a range of brands.
Bognor Regis-headquartered Acopia was founded in 1976 and has grown from a family-run packaging supplier to a firm providing sustainable packaging, consumables and operational services to organisations across the UK, Europe and the US.
Kwikpac was founded in 1993 and is based in Kirkcaldy. Originally serving the UK stretch-film and packaging market, the company has evolved to become a specialist provider of packaging products, stretch-film, strapping and machinery to a diverse array of industries.
The merger is aimed at addressing a changing packaging market that is seeing larger, multi-site operations increasingly rely on broader capabilities, deeper technical support and a stronger geographic reach.
During the merger, BDO’s M&A team provided a full suite of transaction and integration services spanning M&A, financial and tax due diligence, tax structuring and value creation services.
BDO partner James Buckingham said that the merger of the geographically diverse firms would create “a packaging powerhouse.”
He continued: “This deal brings together three longstanding family-owned businesses in the packaging sector and combines their deep-rooted expertise, creating a business of scale and marking a significant event for the UK packaging industry. Orkka, with its combined expertise, can provide a complete end-to-end packaging solution to its customers.”
