State of the market
Lee Hopley, the chief economist at the Engineering Employers Federation, says the sector is not expecting miracles this year: “manufacturers have been grappling with extremely challenging trading conditions for more than a year now, but we’re not out of the woods yet and a great deal of economic uncertainly remains.”
However, for anyone currently hanging on in the sector the recession has presenting some opportunities for acquiring competitors to either increase capacity or diversify.
Business owners are also looking into recruiting the best talent from competitor in the industry to boost their own businesses.
Although opportunities are being presented in the manufacturing industry, the fact remains that many firms are still making redundancies and are being forced to sell stock at heavily discounted levels.
