Net-a-Porter.com could be put on the market
12/05/2008

Natalie Massenet, founder of the online fashion retail business, Net-a-Porter.com, is thought to have ordered a strategic review of the business that might lead to a sale.

Natalie Massenet is a former Tatler journalist who set up Net-a-Porter eight years ago. The business now employs about 290 people in London and New York.

Stakeholders for Net-a-Porter include Richemont, the French luxury goods group, and Baywinds, a Venezuelan company. Massenet is understood to have a 17 per cent stake in the company.

It is thought that the online fashion business would reach a price of around £250m in a trade sale.

In the year to January 31 2007, sales at Net-a-Porter generated £37.2m, more than 50 per cent up on the year before.

It is understood that Net-a-Porter, which features high fashion, accessories, style tips and also an online magazine, wins about 3,000 new customers a month. The average order value is about £500.
