After years of rapid consolidation in the UK’s insurance broker market, activity has slowed down sharply over recent years. While M&A continues at a considerable rate, the general feeling among industry observers is that the wave of consolidation has peaked, with activity now reflecting a more mature market.
In 2025 so far, the slowdown has become more pronounced, with deal volume down 35 per cent in the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2024. Private equity activity has declined, while deals during H1 were spread among a greater number of buyers, indicating lower levels of M&A among the major consolidators that have driven dealmaking over the past decade.
