The most prominent business activities are Science (16.5%), Wholesale and Retail (11.6%), and ICT (10.8%). The IT sector is showing signs of recovery after previous declines. The region continues to be an attractive location for businesses, with Surrey ranking as the best area for business in the UK for 2024. The South East's workforce remains highly educated, with areas like Surrey boasting 53.3% of the population holding NVQ4+ qualifications.In 2024, the South East of England has experienced a dynamic year in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), marked by a notable increase in deal values despite a decline in volume. The region saw a total of 739 deals announced year-to-date, representing a decrease of nearly 21% compared to the previous year. However, the total deal value soared to £26.2 billion, up from £9 billion in the same period last year.
