A North East-based football stadium, along with 25 acres of land, is up for sale as the owners look to reclaim inherited debts of £2 million.
The site is being marketed for sale two months after the parent company entered administration.
The land alongside the club has planning permission, which will be very attractive to retail and leisure property developers. The football club itself is two years into a 15-year lease on the site.
It is hoped that the sale of the Darlington Football Club site will be completed within a matter of months.
Darlington Borough Council has granted permission for a hotel and other leisure developments to be built there, subject to the necessary approval. Two supermarket giants are thought to have enquired about the land.
Edward Symmons is marketing the County Durham site for sale on behalf of the administrators.
Chris Honeywill at Edward Symmons is taking enquiries about the sale and said, “This does not affect the club because it has a lease agreement and that will continue.”
The football club has had a spell in the hands of administrators three times in the past decade.
