Driffield-based Agricultural Contracts and Marketing Company (ACMC) Ltd has been placed in administration.
For the time being the business will continue to trade while in administration. This decision was taken by Bob Maxwell and Rob Sadler of Begbies Traynor, who have been appointed to handle the company's administration procedure, in order to pursue the best course of action to maximise the return to creditors.
The business supplies genetically-advanced breeding stock to farmers on an international basis. It specialises in pig breed development and “genetic improvement via selective breeding” to produce the most valuable and suitable breeds for farmers.
ACMC was established as a family business back in 1990 and employed a total of 35 staff. The company's Chairman, Stephen Curtis, was the former Managing Director of the National Pig Development Company Ltd, a leading independent pig breeding organisation.
Agricultural businesses for sale don't come up that often in the UK.
