A buyer is being sought for popular East Midlands fish and chip chain George’s Tradition, after the company fell into administration as a result of historic debts. Raj Mittal and Arvindar Jit Singh of FRP Advisory have been appointed as joint administrators.
The administrators have been tasked with finding a buyer for George’s Tradition Limited, which operates the seven-strong chain of restaurant, takeaway and pub sites, and George’s Tradition (Belper) Limited, which runs a restaurant and takeaway site.
George’s Tradition has its head office and a restaurant in the village of Chellaston, Derby. Its other locations are in Allestree, Chilwell, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, West Bridgford and Woodlinkin, where it operates The Thorn Tree Pub. The company also owns a central food processing facility in Ilkeston.
The company has entered administration due to historic debts incurred in the launch of a restaurant chain, which the business subsequently exited. All of the company’s sites will remain open and operational while a buyer is sought.
Two restaurants in Leek and Loughborough also trade under the George’s Tradition brand name, however, they are owned by separate entities and are not affected by the administration process.
Joint administrator Raj Mittal commented: "George's Tradition is a much-loved chain of fish and chip shops that has been established in communities across the East Midlands. While the company has faced some historical financial challenges, the remaining business is strong and so we are confident that there will be appetite from potential investors to take the brand forward."
