A Dundee-based construction firm looks set to go into administration, reports suggest.
Muirfield Contracts has put forward a petition to the sheriff court to appoint administrators, according to The Tele. Further information from the BBC reveals that staff have been given letters telling them not to report to building sites as they had been placed on gardening leave.
The leading construction company employs over 250 people, of which around 100 are members of the building union UCATT.
Some employees attended a meeting at the Muirfield Contracts' headquarters at Camperdown Industrial Park on 11 March, where they were reportedly told the news.
George Ramsay, a UCATT representative, told workers outside Camperdown Industrial Park that employees had received letters pertaining to the appointment of administrators.
He explained: “They have handed out letters to some of them saying they are in the process of appointing an administrator but that is really all we know just now.”
The firm, which has offices in Dundee, Aberdeen and Grangemouth, has not commented on the issue. After being built up by Maurice McKay in 2013 Muirfield Contracts was sold to Azure Investments. The company has worked on major projects including refurbishing Dundee's McManus Galleries and constructing the Forfar headquarters for Angus Council.
