School uniform supplier John Cheatle Limited and John Cheatle (Midlands) faces an uncertain future after entering administration back in April.
The group, which supplies school uniforms to more than 1,200 primary and secondary schools throughout Britain, was placed in the hands of joint administrators Nigel Morrison and David Dunckley of Grant Thornton UK LLP in April this year.
The administrators have closed down and sold 53 shops after a going concern sale for the entire store portfolio did not materialise. The group’s management saved 27 out of the total 80 outlets – a mix of high street branches and in-school shops - and a total of 80 jobs. The administrators are set to implement further closures or disposals this month.
A newly formed company called Newplan Solutions bought several of the in-school shops and some high street branches located in Leeds, Bradford, Rugby and Leicester among other locations.
Administrator Mr Morrison commented: “The Schoolware Solutions branch in Lincoln is continuing to trade although if a going concern buyer cannot be found this is unlikely to be long term.
“Since entering administration, we have continued to trade the balance of stores. A number of John Cheatle branches have since been sold and some have now been closed."
He added that the business will continue to trade and buyers will be sought for the remaining stores.
