A company that manages two private care homes in the Midlands has entered administration.
Diana Frangou and Dilip Dattani of Baker Tilly are the appointed joint administrators for Elysian Care Ltd, which has two homes – The Homestead in Prestwood and Knoll House in Penn, as well as a hotel – the Mill Hotel in Shropshire.
The hotel closed earlier this month, with no refunds for wedding bookings, much to many customers’ distress. Reports claim the venue has a sign outside saying, “closed due to unforeseen circumstances”. Meanwhile the elderly residents of Knoll House have been relocated, with The Homestead’s residents following suit.
Baker Tilly confirmed that its main task is to run things as normal at The Homestead for residents while new accommodation is found.
The firm said: “In the interim period, we will be working closely with the local authorities and will be supported by a specialist healthcare management company.”
Mark Sutton, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for social and health care, assured that the move won’t be rushed. He said: “Despite the change in circumstances there is no time limit to move residents, as their wellbeing is paramount and we are looking at everything on a case-by-case basis and discussing matter with them and their families.”
Following concerns about the financial health of Elysian Care both Staffordshire County Council and Wolverhampton City Council stepped in to pay staff who had been working for up to 13 weeks with no wages in October.
