Rugby club Wakefield Trinity has entered administration, having failed to pay a tax bill exceeding £300,000.
The beleaguered club was due in court on Tuesday for their third winding-up petition in the space of 12 months over the unpaid taxes. The case was adjourned, however, as the club had entered administration.
The Wildcats had failed to secure the funding needed to pay HMRC, its board subsequently decided that administration would be the best move to protect it from creditors.
Administrators at O'Hara and Co have been lined up for the task, and aim to finalise a sale before Trinity play their first game of the Super League season, which is to take place in about one week's time.
"There is no guarantee we will be appointed as administrators and the earliest that can be done is a week on Friday, although in an ideal situation we would be able to conduct a sale pretty much the same day," O'Hara's Simon Weir said.
One eager potential buyer has already made his interest known - Andrew Glover is a Trinity supporter and runs West Yorkshire Windows and Doors. He has created a new company called Spirit of 1873 Limited (the year Trinity was established) and made the news public on his fir's website. He has reportedly already put in an offer.
The founding chairman of the Clipper logistics company Steve Parkin is also thought likely to be interested. He attempted to purchase Leeds United FC six years ago, before Ken Bates bought it.
