Fitness giant Virgin Active have acquired a laundry business, H20 Leisure Services, which went into administration last month.
The gym owner purchased the towel and laundry supplier, which was based in Neasden, north London and employs 30 people. It already supplied Virgin's 50 sports clubs in London, which use more than one million towels each month.
Virgin said it decided to buy the business after receiving comments from customers that its towel service needed to be upgraded. In doing so, it safeguarded all of the 30 jobs at H20.
Virgin Active UK chief operating officer Scott Hood said, “We did not expect to be running a laundry business at this point, but this move shows our commitment to going the extra mile to ensure we give members what they need – in this case a continual supply of towels.
“We’re pleased to have safeguarded over 30 jobs in a business that was suffering in these tough times,” he added.
Alongside the 50 clubs run by Virgin all across London, the gym giant also runs a further 21 clubs across the rest of the UK. Over the last financial year, member numbers at Virgin Active rose four per cent to 919,000.
