Irish solar panel provider Activ8 Energies has acquired Low Carbon Energy (LCE), a UK-based solar company, as it seeks to expand its presence in the UK renewable energy sector.
LCE was founded in 2009 and has built a strong reputation within the UK solar sector. It has worked on over 300 sites nationwide and delivered in excess of 60 MW of installed solar capacity, with a client portfolio including the likes of the NHS, Tata Steel, United Utilities, Boeing and Co-op.
The deal sees Activ8 acquire 100 per cent of LCE’s shareholding. LCE will continue to operate under its existing brand for the near term, providing continuity for customers while delivering the benefits of Activ8’s enhanced scale and resources.
Managing Director Benedict Ennis will continue to lead the company, while founder Ged Ennis will remain with the business as a non-executive director, providing strategic guidance as the company embarks on a new growth phase.
Activ8 Solar Energies CEO Ciarán Marron said that the deal was a “transformative moment” for the firm as it accelerates its UK growth ambitions, adding that the combination of the two companies’ strengths meant they were “better equipped than ever to deliver innovative, large-scale energy solutions for clients seeking sustainable energy security.”
Marron added that LCE’s “impressive track record, technical capability, and prestigious client base” complemented Activ8’s vision and that the combined business was “poised to scale nationwide and play a central role in supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy.”
LCE Managing Director Benedict Ennis said: “Activ8’s track record and market leadership will allow us to build on our foundations, expand our team, and deliver more projects at greater scale, nationwide. Our clients will benefit from our enhanced capacity and a shared commitment to quality, innovation, and customer focus.”
Activ8 is seeking to contribute to more commercial infrastructure projects in the UK, having recently worked on a £3 million solar farm at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, which will provide 25 per cent of the site’s electricity when it goes live next month.
Activ8 is 50 per cent owned by SSE Airtricity, SSE’s Irish subsidiary. The company is aiming to double its turnover and installed solar capacity over the coming years, targeting expansion beyond Ireland with the goal of establishing itself as the UK’s biggest provider of commercial and industrial renewable energy.
