A bid is being finalised by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) and Marsh Wind Technology to buy an Argyll factory that builds towers for wind turbines out of administration.
The future of the factory at Machrihanish near Campbeltown was put under threat earlier this year when its parent company, Danish company Skykon, filed for bankruptcy. It is believed that the joint bid for the takeover could be secured within weeks.
The two companies have secured "preferred bidder" status from the administrators of the plant, who have been keeping it running as a going concern since Skykon's collapse.
Representatives from both SSE and Marsh have said that there is a great deal of confidence in the plant, due to the ever-growing demand for renewable energy.
Chief executive of SSE, Ian Marchant, "As the market for offshore wind turbines develops from 2013 onwards it should be possible to expand the operation to fully utilise the excellent facilities which are now available at the site."
He said they hoped to retain the "substantial majority" of the workforce, while offering redeployment opportunities to some of them.
Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, welcomed the efforts being made by both of the companies, stating, "It underlines the industry's confidence in the skills of the workforce and the important role this plant can play within the renewables industry supply chain."
