ANSYS, a NASDAQ-listed business which provides engineering simulation technologies, has successfully completed the acquisition of Cambridge-headquartered company Granta Design.
Granta Design boasts a team of 180 members of staff specialising in the design and creation of materials information technology. ANSYS’s acquisition of the company will allow its own customer base to gain access to material intelligence as a result.
Presently Granta designs and develops GRANTA MI and CES Selector, which are systems for enterprise materials information management and research to evaluate the impact of various materials on product behaviour respectively.
Beyond these two, Granta also produces the CES EduPack, which is used by companies like Airbus, General Motors and NASA, as a teaching resource for subjects in engineering, science, design and processing.
Vice president and general manager of ANSYS, Shane Emswiler, said: “Granta Design has pioneered the field of materials information technology. With materials engineering becoming an increasingly important aspect of product development, our customers require high-quality and comprehensive materials information for accurate simulation results.
“Integrating Granta's solutions into the ANSYS portfolio will provide a seamless user experience – and enable our customers to innovate like never before.”
Similarly, Granta Design’s co-founder and managing director, David Cebon, commented on the acquisition stating: “For nearly 50 years, ANSYS has been the leader in engineering simulation. Combining that expertise with Granta's decades of experience in material intelligence will help our customers make smarter decisions when developing their next-generation products.”
