As part of budget cuts by Lancashire County Council, one of Preston's most historic buildings is to be put onto the market.
Park Hotel on East Cliff – which currently houses council offices – is to go on sale early next year, after it shuts at the end of this year.
Opened just prior to the 1882 Guild, the Victorian building - which boasts stunning views over Miller Parks and Avenham - has hosted visitors including the Prince of Wales, actress Gracie Fields and former Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin.
It was designed by Oldham-based architect T Mitchell, and is a mix of Queen Anne, Elizabethan, Gothic and Renaissance styles, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.
When it was still being operated as a hotel, it contained 33 double bedrooms, 29 single bedrooms and six drawing rooms.
The hotel sale is part of a bid by the local council to save up to £1 million a year, and staff are already being moved out of the Park Hotel to other centres including Preston's County Hall.
Vicar of Preston Fr Timothy Lipscomb, told the publication, “It is an iconic Walt Disney fairytale castle. It has a commanding view of the park and is near to the station. It would make a magnificent boutique hotel.
“I think it would be absolutely wonderful, what could be better than getting it done, so we can put people up from all over the world for the Preston Guild?” he added.
