A North Yorkshire-based wellness products company has been rescued after being acquired out of administration. The Harrogate Organics Company Limited, which operated primarily as an online retailer but also had a physical retail location on Harrogate’s Market Street, fell into administration last month.
The company specialised in a wide range of natural products, including skincare, nutritional supplements, bath, body and hair care, as well as wellness products and books. Its core product offering was aimed at helping sleep and anxiety, along with more general products for promoting a healthier lifestyle.
David Wilson of DFW Associates was appointed as administrator of the company on May 22 2025, with no reason for the company's collapse disclosed. Subsequently, following successful negotiations, the business was acquired by Strive Group Brands Ltd, the Harrogate-based subsidiary of Strive Group Holdings Ltd.
Following the acquisition by Strive Group, the new owners currently intend to operate the company as an online business, with the retail unit in Harrogate having closed. The majority of The Harrogate Organics Company’s staff have been retained following the rescue deal.
Administrator David Wilson commented: "We are delighted that the business will now continue and that the majority of staff have been retained by the new owners. The sale will mean a return to creditors in the eventual liquidation of the company."
In The Harrogate Organics Company’s most recent accounts at Companies House, covering the year ending January 31 2024, during which time it employed three people, the company’s fixed assets were valued at £9,133 and current assets at slightly over £154,000.
At the time, its debts meant that the company’s total liabilities amounted to nearly £3,600. However, this represented a significant improvement from liabilities of close to £23,000 a year earlier.
As UK retailers continue to face significant headwinds, distressed acquisitions could emerge as a valuable growth driver for buyers in the sector
