A Monmouthshire hotel of special historic significance, parts of which date back to the 16th Century, has been placed on the market, South Wales Argus reports.
The grade ll-listed Royal George Hotel is based in an Area of Natural Beauty — the Wye Valley — and is for sale with Christie & Co for £850,000. The AA rate it as a three-star hotel, and it also frequently features in the top 20 Best Western hotels in Britain.
Originally constructed as an ironmaster's house, it was redeveloped into an inn in the early 19th Century. With it being an early hotel, it has been listed as historically significant by environment service Cadw and is on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.
Today it is traded as a hotel with 16 bedrooms, a bar and restaurant, and has plenty of scope for buyers.
“The Royal George is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a profitable hotel in an incredibly sought-after location. Tintern has very special feel to it,” John Coggins of Christie & Co in Cardiff said.
He added: “The business enjoys excellent levels of trade and good levels of profitability, but has significant scope for new owners to push the business forward by growing room sales and developing the events trade, taking advantage of the special location.”
