The BBC has sold off its Manchester city centre headquarters, ahead of its relocation to Salford.
The Oxford Road building, known as New Broadcasting House, has been home to the broadcasting corporation since 1976, and was put onto the market in August last year, advertised as a 'major mixed-use development opportunity'.
The commercial property has been acquired by Manchester-based Realty Estates Ltd, who had to fight off stiff competition from four other interested parties including the Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund and Downing. The eventual sale price has not yet been disclosed.
The BBC will settle into its new home at MediaCity in Salford later this year, and Realty Estates will then take over the Oxford Road building.
BBC Workplace released a statement, which read, "Following a period of open marketing, the BBC has exchanged contracts for the sale of its Oxford Road site in Manchester to Realty Estates."
More than 1,000 members of staff from the BBC's White City base in London will move to the new base in Salford later this year.
In a prime location, this freehold business opportunity includes a detached, well-equipped bakery factory along with a retail outlet and cafe, all part of a family business with a century of trading history.
Established in key industries like power generation and rail, this company offers specialised electrical and engineering services across the UK and Ireland, boasting strong relationships with blue-chip clients and a reliable income stream.
This well-established company has a decade-long track record in a growing market and is fully relocatable or can be operated remotely, providing flexibility for the new owner.
