A hospitality group has expanded its portfolio of UK properties with the acquisition of a historic hotel in the South West spa town of Cheltenham. KE Hotels’ acquisition of The Queens Hotel Cheltenham takes its portfolio to eight hotels, comprising five owned and three managed.
The Queens Hotel Cheltenham is a grade II-listed landmark situated on a prominent one-acre site adjacent to the town’s Imperial Gardens. The 84-bedroom hotel has been described as one of the region’s most architecturally significant buildings.
Since 2017, the hotel had been owned and operated by Sutton Hotel Collection, which also owns The Francis Hotel Bath and The Castle Hotel Windsor.
Following the acquisition, KE Hotels Managing Director Anil Khanna said that it was an exciting time for the company, as its growth strategy continues to build momentum.
Khanna continued: "The addition of The Queens Hotel Cheltenham not only strengthens our owned portfolio but also reflects our long-term vision of acquiring and managing distinctive properties in strategic UK destinations.”
KE Hotels Chief Operating Officer Josh Watts added that the company would seek to work alongside the Queens Hotel’s onsite team “to build on the hotel’s heritage and deliver an exceptional guest experience."
The deal follows a series of recent major additions for the company, including its 2023 takeovers of Hotel Indigo Newcastle and Holiday Inn Luton Airport. Following the acquisition of the hotel in Luton, the company secured planning permission to expand the site.
Last year, KE Hotels assumed management of three Hampton by Hilton hotels in Sheffield, Newcastle and Birmingham Broad Street. The three hotels are managed under hotel management agreements (HMA), with the additions seeing the company further diversifying its operating model.
