Edinburgh’s Dalhousie Castle has been sold to an entrepreneur for an undisclosed sum.
Robert Parker, who also owns Doxford Hall, Eshott Hall and Guyzance Hall in Northumberland, has bought the property, according to reports. The final sale price is unknown but a guide price of £7.5 million had previously been set.
The hotel is a luxury 13th-century property and was formerly owned by Von Essen Hotels, before the group went into administration last year. The property was previously a castle and it was converted to be used as a hotel in 1972.
The venue is popular for general stays, conferences, events and weddings. It is well-known for its spa facilities and rumours of a 16th-century ghost is also a point of interest for guests.
Robert Parker has developed a number of care homes in the past, which he sold on in 2006. Along with his wife, he now concentrates on developing luxury country hotels and rural estates.
Mr Parker told Conference News, “I am delighted with the purchase as it fits perfectly with our existing businesses.”
He added, “We intend to invest in both the hotel, and its staff. Our aim is to become a truly luxury location, through attention to details in every aspect of the property - whether it be dining, decor or service, or through the events we hold for guests and visitors. Our policy is to invest in the local economy, through buying locally, and providing opportunity and employment.”
Operating internationally, the company offers the development, hosting, and maintenance of electronic document management software. The business provides maintenance contracts, licences, installation, and training for its software.
