Acquisitive chartered accountants Streets Chartered Accountants has completed its latest merger with a deal involving an accountancy firm based in the South West. The merger with Barnstaple-based Stevens and Willey expands Streets’ presence in the south west of England.
The deal will see Stevens & Willey become part of Streets, extending the buyer’s network of offices further into Devon. The merger also adds to its growing UK-wide presence, with the group saying it reinforces its commitment to having both a local presence and a national capability.
The merger continues a string of deals completed by Streets as it seeks to take advantage of significant consolidation in the accountancy sector, while adopting an M&A approach that marks it out from potential competitors.
Streets Chairman and Managing Partner Paul Tutin has previously said the company’s preference for mergers over direct acquisitions “seeks to build on the success of merging firms, ensuring we retain and build on their winning approach.”
According to Tutin, this approach is “particularly liked” by many owners considering an exit, facing challenges in securing growth or contending with increased competition and the requirement to expand their service offering.
Commenting on the latest deal, Tutin said that Stevens and Willey’s “well-established presence in North Devon aligns perfectly with our strategic vision for embedding offices across the UK,” adding that “the merger complements our growing number of regional offices.”
Tutin said that there were significant synergies and shared values in how the two companies support their clients and that Streets would seek to build on Stevens and Willey’s local standing “while offering broader advisory services and greater opportunities for growth.”
Stevens and Willey partner Amanda Hicks said that the merger was “a great match, both in terms of client focus and cultural fit” and that the deal was in the best interests of both clients and staff.
Hicks added: “As part of a wider, thriving practice, we can confidently promise greater continuity of service to our clients alongside a wider range of services, which includes areas of specialist tax planning and personal financial planning.”
Following the merger with Stevens and Willey, Streets now has a presence in: Banbury; Bedford; Belfast; Brighton; Bristol; Burnley; Cambridge; Cardiff; Colchester; Exeter; Glasgow; Halifax; Haverhill; Hull; Leamington Spa; Lichfield; Lincoln; London (Covent Garden, King’s Cross, Shoreditch); Ludlow; Luton; Manchester; Mersea; Newark; Newmarket; Northampton and Kettering; Peterborough; Preston; Sheffield; Stevenage; and Wakefield.
