A cladding specialist based in Suffolk has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators after succumbing to the challenging trading conditions facing the UK construction sector.
English Architectural Glazing Limited (EAG) is a specialist in the design of complex, engineered envelope cladding packages using a wide array of materials, including curtain walling, structural glass, metal screen systems and natural and engineered stone, among others.
The company generated turnover of £21.7 million in the year to December 31 2023, up from £15.1 million a year earlier. However, amid increasingly difficult trading conditions in the construction sector, it has been unable to trade profitably, with its 2023 accounts showing a post-tax loss of nearly £320,000.
As a result of these struggles, the company, along with its curtain walling manufacturing division Multifab Limited, is set to appoint administrators, with Begbies Traynor lined up for the process.
EAG was previously part of the Clarison Group, a £100 million-turnover facades group that was formed through the merger of four cladding specialists: EAG, Alucraft, Alucraft Ireland and Williaam Cox. The group was majority owned by UK private equity fund Elaghmore.
However, EAG had once again been operating as a standalone firm since the end of last year. Sister company Alucraft entered administration in March 2024 amid rising debts, while Clarison Group subsequently changed its name to TGCL 2024 Limited before entering voluntary liquidation in July 2024.
Discussing EAG’s struggles, a spokesperson for Elaghmore said: “Sadly, the challenging conditions in the UK construction industry has meant EAG has not been able to secure new contracts and trade profitably, despite considerable investment.”
“The Company sought new investment, but this process was unsuccessful. As a result, the Board of EAG has applied to the Court for Begbies Traynor to be appointed as administrators.”
In its 2023 accounts, the company’s fixed assets were valued at £177,000 and current assets at £7.7 million, with net assets standing at around £793,000.
