Administrators have been appointed at the UK division of German bedroom furniture maker Nolte Möbel after its parent company entered insolvency. Nolte Möbel UK filed to appoint administrators in April 2025, with Nick Cusack and Paul Bailey of Bailey Ahmad Limited subsequently appointed as joint administrators at the beginning of May.
The joint administrators have said they are working with relevant parties to ensure the fulfilment of all current orders, where possible. They add that customers with outstanding orders will be contacted regarding delivery within the next two weeks.
The firm’s German parent company has been in insolvency proceedings for months and ultimately announced its closure at the end of April. Prior to its collapse, Nolte Möbel specialised in bedroom fitted furniture including wardrobes, shelving, drawer blocks, shoe racks, mirrors and lighting.
In 2020, Nolte Möbel split from kitchen supplier Nolte Group, meaning that the administration does not impact the wider Nolte Group or its subsidiaries.
Following this separation, the company has struggled, reportedly writing off millions of pounds of debt during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to reports, Nolte Möbel GmbH & Co. KG filed for insolvency in November 2023 and, despite efforts to restructure the business since then, was unable to recover.
Unless a buyer can be found, the German parent company will cease operations entirely in July once the final orders have been completed over the coming weeks. Reports in the German press indicate that the group had experienced a particularly difficult April, amid worsening market conditions and an unstable geopolitical environment.
In accounts for the year to December 31 2023, Nolte Mobel Limited’s fixed assets were valued at around £81,000 and current assets at £531,000. However, significant debts meant that its net liabilities at the time totalled nearly £45,000.
