Wed, 27 Oct 2010 | ADMINISTRATION
A Perthshire hotel, owned by former personal chef to Nelson Mandela, Pete Gottgens, has entered administration.
The award-winning Ardeonaig Hotel has subsequently been placed on the market by the administrators at Zolfo Coopers with a price tag of £1.1 million. Its ten employees have all been made redundant.
The South African owner Mr Gottgens has reportedly left the hotel, having dropped all associations with it.
Alan Creevy of Jones Lang LaSalle has been mandated with the task of selling the hotel, which is “really quite an exceptional property in a stunning location in the heart of Perthshire.”
Refurbishment undertaken in 2008 left the business with cashflow problems. It is believed an amount close to £2 million was spent.
The administrators are examining all the options for the hotel and are positive about finding a buyer. The decision has been made to stop trading at the business for the winter months with the intention of resuming in the spring, according to Anne O’Keefe of Zolfo Cooper. The move will “ensure the viability of the business for prospective buyers.”
The eccentric Mr Gottgens had built up a reputation at the hotel for being the South African Gordon Ramsey, with his shouts being heard from the kitchen by diners on a regular basis. He recently won a bronze medal at the Scottish Chef Awards.
Serving blue-chip data management and security technology clients across the globe, this disruptive software development company provides tools and services to assess, repair, and recover, and migrate enterprise backup products.
