A Bolton-based manufacturer of specialist motorcycles has fallen into administration after more than 50 years of operation. CCM Motorcycles (UK) Limited, which was founded in 1971 as Clews Competition Machines, has faced increasingly challenging trading conditions.
The manufacturer typically produced approximately 300 bikes a year, but manufactured just 150 in 2024. Over recent months, the company has made a number of redundancies, bringing its workforce down to just 12 staff, compared to more than 50 three years ago.
In 2021, the company, which operated from a factory at Jubilee Works, secured a major investment from Pitalia Capital in order to finance an “international growth drive”. This lead to the business expanding its team with the aim of serving “pent-up demand across Europe and the United States”.
Even as recently as March 2025, CCM Managing Director Jason Broome said to industry publication MCN that the company was “in a healthy position”. However, the same month, the company cut its workforce and announced that it would postpone the launch of its Project X bike.
Its collapse was subsequently confirmed earlier this week when six associated businesses, including CCM Motorcycles (UK), Jumptec, Clews & Sons, Alegatum, were placed into administration.
In accounts for the year to March 31 2024, the company’s fixed assets were valued at £573,605 and current assets at approximately £1.5 million, with net assets standing at around £1.1 million.
The collapse of CCM comes at a time when the motorcycle manufacturing industry is facing major challenges. Birmingham-based manufacturer Mutt Motorcycles fell into administration in March 2025, citing a fall in demand, while Completely Motorbikes, a key retail partner to CCM, collapsed in October 2024.
