Administrators are seeking new owners for the Chirk Golf Club and Chirk Marina on Llangollen Canal, near Wrexham, Wales.
John Kelly and Nigel Price, partners at the Begbies Traynor Birmingham office, have been brought in to act as the joint administrators for the troubled businesses which had been pulled under by poor trading due to bad summer weather.
The businesses are part of Myddelton Leisure, operated by the Myddelton family who live at the nearby Chirk Castle. The property was taken over by the National Trust in 1978, and has been in the family's hands since 1995.
The director of Myddelton Leisure Limited, Guy Myddelton, told the BBC, “Trading conditions for Chirk Golf Club had been made more difficult this year by the terrible summer weather, which has affected the number of visiting golfers.
“However, we have a dedicated and growing membership and I hope that we can find a buyer to take the club forward following my investment in it over the past few years.”
The golf club, featuring a Par 72 Championship course on mature parkland that was once part of the castle’s landscape, has seven employees and almost 300 members.
The marina offers services for narrowboat users on part of the Llangollen Canal, which is a world heritage site.
