A 75-year-old construction business based in Colchester in Essex has entered into administration.
WA Hills operated mainly in London and the South East and worked on design and build projects as well as traditional building jobs worth up to £15 million.
Glyn Mummery and Jeremy Stuart French from FRP Advisory have been called in to take financial control of the building company. Details of the administration process have not yet been disclosed.
Reasons for the company's collapse are thought to include a reduction in work orders and increasing costs. These are common factors which have caused several business failures in the construction industry over the past few years.
Established as a family-run business, Hills was bought by Brentwood-based civil engineering company, S Walsh and Sons in 2008. Projects undertaken were mainly in the residential, commercial, education, leisure, healthcare and industrial sectors.
Hills' joinery division ran an apprenticeship training scheme and also undertook restoration work for English Heritage.
WA Hills Limited was approved by the National House Building Council, Constructionline and the Construction Industry Training Board.
Revenues at WA Hills Limited reached £26.116 million for the year to 31 May 2009 with a pre-tax loss of £134,000.
