Comet's administrators have launched a liquidation sale, ahead of possible store closures next week.
The electrical retailer's appointed administrators, Deloitte, have started to get the business in order and the sale will play a major role in winding things up. Some stores are expected to close as early as next week so there is a real rush to get rid of stock and salvage whatever possible from the sale.
Customers have been told that gift vouchers will be accepted but warned that goods ordered before the company entered administration that have not been paid for will not be delivered.
Deloitte had planned to find a buyer for Comet. However, it appears that time is starting to run out and rumour is rife that the firm is set to start closing some of its 200-plus shops.
A spokesman for the administrators told the PA: “We are not commenting on market speculation about store closures.”
If stores do close, staff will have the chance to transfer jobs. The owner of PC World and Currys has delayed the usual Christmas recruitment drive, in which it usually takes on around 2,000 staff, to offer workers from Comet the chance to take up the jobs.
