The Eden Hotel Collection has acquired the Cheltenham-based Greenway Hotel & Spa following the administration earlier this year of its former owner, Von Essen Hotels.
The 17-bedroom Elizabethan manor house hotel is situated in eight acres of stunning parkland on the edge of the Cotswolds, and boasts two AA rosettes and three AA red stars.
The Eden Hotel Collection – which is owned by Sir Peter Rigby, the aviation and computer tycoon – paid around £3.5 million for the hotel, the second major acquisition it has made this year, alongside Brockencote Hall in Worcestershire.
The group also owns four other luxury hotels, including the Arden Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon, Mallory Court in Leamington Spa, The Kings Hotel in Chipping Campden and Buckland Tout-Saints in Devon.
Mark Chambers, managing director of the hotel group, told Caterer Search that the latest acquisition was a 'perfect fit' for the company.
“The added benefit of the recently developed spa poses a different dynamic for our company and we are excited to be taking the Greenway Hotel & Spa back into private ownership, where it will get the care and attention needed to return it to its former glory,” said Mr Chambers.
Following the fall into administration of Von Essen in April of this year, seven of the 26 hotels it owned have now been sold on to new buyers. The portfolio of hotels are being marketed for sale through Christie & Co on behalf of administrators Ernst & Young.
