Edinburgh-based care home enters administration

After suffering significant cashflow difficulties, Bertinaley Care Limited has gone into administration. The Edinburgh-based company owns and operates three premises in Scotland - Hamilton, Largs and Dundee - as well as one in Surrey, England.

Tom MacLennan, Iain Fraser and Chris Stevens of FRP Advisory LLP have been appointed as joint administrators.

With 68 residents in total, the administrators have appointed care home operator Careport to manage the premises while the administration process is underway so as to “ensure continuing care for residents and the smooth running of the homes during the administration process.”

The company’s Dundee branch, Helenslea House has closed its door and preparations are being made to move all residents to alternative accommodation.

Joint administrator, Mr MacLennan said: “Unfortunately, following a number of operational challenges and a decline in resident numbers, the company has suffered significant cashflow difficulties which could not be resolved, resulting in it entering into administration.

“The health and wellbeing of the residents is of the utmost importance, which is why we have acted quickly by appointing Careport to manage the homes throughout this process and ensure that residents receive the best care.

“Whilst it has sadly been necessary to close the Helenslea House home in Dundee, we would encourage anyone interested in acquiring any or all of the homes to get in touch with us ”

The care home in Hamilton dates back to the 1800s and was named after the late Duchess of Hamilton, the co-founder of the Animal Defence and Anti-Vivisection Society in 1903.
