Three parts of Greater Manchester-based construction and civil engineering firm Ennis Group have been taken into administration after being issued a winding-up order.
Jim Ennis Construction, Ennis Group PLC and Ennis Developments have been placed in the hands of P&A partnership administrators Chris White and John Russell. A total of 45 staff have lost their jobs.
Two other aspects of the group - Ennis Construction, which has taken on some of the newly redundant workers, and Ennis Construction Airports - are still trading.
The administrators are working to collect the group’s debts and possibly sell its assets to Ennis Construction.
Established by chairman Jim Ennis in 1964, Ennis Group’s clients include construction firms, private property developers and local authorities. The group has previously worked on projects at Manchester United, Manchester City’s stadium, Aintree Racecourse, The Trafford Centre and Manchester’s Metrolink.
Joint administrator Mr White said, “Ennis has been hit by the economy and lack of activity in construction. They had a winding-up petition issued against them, supported by 15 creditors, and there were no other options available for these companies but to cease trading.”
Independent civil engineering contractor Jim Ennis Construction had been the group’s main trading unit.
