One of the leading civil engineering and construction businesses in the Highlands has been taken in to administration.
A road construction specialist, Highland Quality Construction (HQC) has worked on large contracts in various parts of Scotland, including upgrading the M80 and the A9. Its civil engineering works have included Inverness Airport and the Glendoe Hudro project.
The £20 million turnover company also had stevedoring, recycling and plant subsidiaries.
The administrator has not yet been named, much to the dismay of HQC's trade contractors and suppliers. It has been revealed that the company's directors resigned shortly before the administrator was brought in.
It is believed that HQC had been waiting for payment for its contribution to a large road scheme.
HQC's logos have reportedly been removed from night lorries and other HQC-owned heavy machinery since the move into administration.
Established in 1994, the firm's pre-tax profits took a dive from £2.16m for the year to 31 December 2007 to £317k for the same period one year later.
A well-established UK distributor renowned for high-quality bicycle components and accessories, serving both retail and trade customers nationwide, is available for acquisition.
