A demolition firm in Hull that has been operating for more than 30 years has entered administration after experiencing gradually decreasing workloads.
DJ Broady, which operates from its Foster Street base in the east of the city, informed their 39 staff of the news at the end of the week, immediately terminating all of their jobs.
Joint administrators Adrian Allen and Alec Pillmoor, from Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery LLP, have been appointed to manage the administration. They said that despite the ceasing of trading, they would be making strenuous efforts to find a buyer to step in and rescue the firm. The firm's sister company Robin Concrete is still trading.
"It is regrettable that these redundancies have had to be made and the business could not be saved," said Mr Pillmoor. "We are making every effort where we can to assist the workforce and creditors involved."
The company had taken a leading role in some of the city's most high-profile demolition projects, including the Boulevard stadium in west Hull, and Pepi's bar on Hull Marina. Despite their established reputation, however, a combination of factors - including a major drop in orders from the public sector - had forced them to implement a reduced hours schedule for their workers in December.
