Intelligence², the live debate forum, has entered administration Insolvency News has reported, with Michael Healy and Neil Bennett from Leonard Curtis appointed as the administrators.
The business has held debates in London, Sydney, New York and Hong Kong, and speakers have included Tony Blair, Stephen Fry and Richard Dawkins. Its verbal battles have been broadcast on BBC World to an audience of over 70 million people.
Based in London’s Notting Hill Gate, Intelligence² has been hosting debates across the world since it was founded in 2002. People can access audio debates, written debates and talks by leading scientists, politicians and writers through its website. The debates are also available for online viewing.
The administrators said in a statement sent to Insolvency News that they will ‘continue to manage the business and the strategy will evolve as discussions with interested parties move forward’.
Intelligence² was set up by John Gordon, the former boss of Xtreme Information and Jeremy O’Grady, the editor-in-chief of The Week magazine.
Its last reported accounts for the year ending 30 September 2011 show net assets had fallen to -£672,306, from -£154,258 for the previous year.
Controversial matters explored in debate include ‘Western governments need to end the war on drugs’, and subjects covered include history, media, the arts and environment.
