Game developer Relentless Software is to be wound down after entering administration earlier this month. The administrators say a sale "appears unlikely".
The award-winning Brighton-based company had plans to open a new studio in Wales, and create a further 70 jobs for the location, but the pressures of increasing competition and a difficult trading environment were too high. The company directors had sought help in an attempt to save the troubled business, but its financial situation as it was meant that this was unachievable.
Simon and Daniel Plant of SFP were brought in as the joint administrators on 8th August. The business has stopped trading, and its 21 employees have been made redundant.
Simon Plant told Insider Media: "Whilst a sale of the business appears unlikely now, with the company already ceasing to trade, there is a significant amount of work to do now in winding down the affairs of the business and reviewing the factors leading to its collapse."
Relentless Software is well known for the Buzz! Quiz game series for PlayStation, and released its first, for PlayStation 2, in 2005, two years after the company was set up. More than 10 million copies of its Buzz! games have been sold. The studio also developed games for Microsoft's Kinect Fun Labs and Kinect Nat Geo TV.
