In a forceful move to snatch back control of Salisbury City FC from its present owner Mr Otail Touzar, the board has placed the club into administration.
Mr Touzar, a Moroccan businessman, bought a 98 per cent stake in the club in May for £1, with promises of the backing of Arab millionaires, but didn’t even produce the £50,000 bond required by league bosses.
Since then he had failed to pay staff wages, meet fans or go to the ground.
In August it was reported that HMRC had ordered the winding up of the Wiltshire club over unpaid taxes, while a consortium of local businessmen had unsuccessfully tried to oust Touzar in a High Court battle.
After Jeremy Harwood, a consortium board member, lodged a petition through his company LED Synergy in The High Court last week, the club is now in the hands of administrators of Portland Business Support and Advice.
Mr Touzar attempted to challenge the decision in court on Tuesday but was rejected, and was ordered by pay £1,700 in costs within 14 days or risk bankruptcy.
The club’s consortium lead Paul Smith told the Salisbury Journal: “We’re still resolute and determined to take the club on and there is still hope for Salisbury.
“There is a huge amount of relief across the city now Mr Touzar has gone. That’s the end of him now.”
