Inverness-based plumbing firm, Ace Home Heating and Plumbing Services Ltd, has entered administration due to cash flow problems caused by the loss of a major contract.
The family-run business specialised in plumbing, joinery and electrical work and had contracts with Highland Council. The owners Chris and Gail Surtees started the business above a garage in Kiltarlity.
22 employees have now lost their jobs at Ace. The administrators have not yet been named.
Plant hire business DuBye, which was based on the same road as Ace, went into administration only last week with the loss of 20 employees.
Mr Surtees said, “It’s a very sad time. We had run the business for 31 years and had run a very tight ship. We employed our daughters and it was a family business."
“We moved into Inverness about seven years ago and had the showroom which was working very well.”
Mr Surtees did not specify the reasons for Ace’s collapse into administration, but did confirm that he was in talks with lawyers about the predicament.
William Gray of William Gray Construction, also based in Inverness, commented that the downturn in the construction sector in Scotland seems set to continue. “There is only a fraction of the money now coming north to housing associations and there is no new work coming in,” he said.
