Administrators are working to find a buyer for iconic Glasgow music shop, McCormack's Music, after it lost its three-year battle to keep afloat.
The Bath Street family-owned business has over the years seen trade from some of the world's biggest music stars, including the Rolling Stones, The Eagles, and the Manic Street Preachers. The McCormack family has been battling what they called a "dramatic drop in trade" in recent years, however, and placed the company in administration on Friday.
Industry insiders have said, however, that there is significant potential for a new owner to rejuvenate the shop's trade, particularly through enhancing its online trading capabilities.
The shop supplies an enormous range of musical instruments - from recorders to trumpets, and harps to the very latest electric guitars. It also has an expansive catalogue of sheet music and other accessories.
The shop was first opened by Neil McCormack in 1940, in a premises in Cowcaddens. In 1963 it relocated to the Bath Street shop, which was opened by frequent patron, Mick Jagger, in an event that saw so many fans besiege the store that the doors had to be locked.
The firm has been run in recent years by Neil's son, John. No one from the family has officially commented on the administration.
