Wed, 12 Jan 2011 | ADMINISTRATION
Three businesses in the north east of Scotland - all owned by the Les Taylor Group - have entered administration within in the space of one week, and all are now for sale.
We reported earlier on this week that Ernst and Young were drafted in to Les Taylor Contractors and J G Fowlie, and have made 164 of the 192 staff redundant. The businesses had been hit by a reduction in demand for their services.
The remaining employees have been retained by the administrators in order help with 'securing and gathering assets'.
Grampian Building Contractors Ltd has now followed the two companies into administration, after it was also overcome by financial problems. The action saw the cutting of another 19 jobs.
The administrators, Mr Davison and Mr Dempster, are inviting potential buyers of the businesses and assets to make their interest known.
Les Taylor Contractors, which is involved in civil engineering and quarrying, had debts of up to £7 million in the beginning of 2010. The company, founded by entrepreneur Mr Taylor in the 1970s, became one of Aberdeenshire's most successful businesses.
Grampian Building Contractors, specialising in quarry and skip hire, had been acquired by Les Taylor Group in early 2008. It was established in 1994. Mintlaw Transport, a haulage and animal freed storage operation owned by the group, continues to trade.
