A coach company based in Yorkshire has entered administration after a fire at the company's premises seriously damaged its repair shop and three vehicles.
Geldards Coaches has a fleet of some 50 vehicles and 50 staff and operates out of a base in Leeds where it runs a range of routes for group travel, school runs and excursions, as well as providing an executive coach hire business.
However, in August, a fire ripped through its Farnley premises, destroying half of the coach repair shop along with the damage done to the vehicles.
Bob Maxwell and Lee Lockwood of Begbies Traynor were appointed as joint administrators on 11 September and are working to find a buyer for the distressed business.
Mr Maxwell noted that it is unfortunately “commonplace for companies subjected to a major fire not to survive”.
He added: “One of our key concerns has been attempting to minimise disruption to the services operated by Geldards Coaches, particularly the school routes it provides.
“We have spoken to all the customers and we are in the process of arranging to provide emergency cover where required. If parents are in any doubt, they should contact their school.”
Geldards Coaches was founded in 1991 and has operated various routes in the region which people have come to depend on. The administrators are working to maintain these routes and avoid disruption wherever possible.
