A company that specialises in internet and IT services for organisations in the education sector has gone into administration, according to reports, with nine jobs hanging in the balance.
ICT4Collaboration Ltd, based in Leeds, supplies schools in the Yorkshire and Humberside area with internet services and IT support.
The firm was established in January 2014 out of the Yorkshire and Humber Grid for Learning, an organisation dedicated to bringing connectivity and technology to educational bodies.
Since then, the company has provided computer technology and online capabilities to over 500 schools in the North of England.
Graham Newton and Eddie Kerr, business restructuring partners at BDO, were appointed as joint administrators for ICT4Collaboration last week. Upon their appointment the company immediately ceased trading and nine staff have been made redundant.
According to Newton, difficult trading conditions, historic losses and a shortfall in the company’s working cash reserves led to poor business performance and concerns at ICT4Collaboration about its “ongoing viability”.
He added: “Regrettably, it has been necessary to make redundancies and for the company to cease to trade immediately.
"Child safety and protection is of paramount importance and therefore prior to our appointment, management has, in conjunction with local authorities and suppliers, endeavoured to ensure continuity of core services such as internet connectivity and filtering to customer schools during this process."
Customers have been informed of the situation at the Leeds-headquartered firm in advance of the news becoming public knowledge. Schools have been advised to liaise with the relevant local authority to work out how IT services will be delivered in the future.
